Irish footballers furious over hand ball
This is a story only football can write. Ireland scored at St. Denis vs. France in the second leg of the play-off. France equalized after Thierry Henry played the ball in the box with his hand. I can understand why the green man are furious. The referee must have seen that! At least they deserved a penalty shoot-out. I would love to see FIFA one time repeat such a match.
No. 19 won't happen
A draw at home almost equals a defeat these days. Well, my mighty Reds won
vs. United but didn't manage to win any other match in the last couple of
weeks. That's simply not enough to land the title. The gap, which the team
closed step by step in the last three season, is by now 11 points. With
all respect for Birmingham City, this was a must-win for the Reds. I think
the manager is reponsible for this crisis by now. If I would be a player
then I wouldn't also understand his tactics this season. I'm not into
sacking the manager, if the team doesn't play well, but when the team only
manages to motivate themselves vs. United then it speaks for itself and
shows the standing of the boss right now.
Reds sink United
The Reds won vs United this afternoon 2 - 0 by goals from Torres and Ngog. Unbelievable as Steven Gerrard was still out of action. It seems the team shows some character.
the big clash on sunday
Well, after four defeats in a row Manchester United will visit Anfield on Sunday. The good news is the picture above, showing Aquilani and Torres in training. This match is maybe more important than usual. Well, I know what to expect, a team which will do everything to win. The Reds have to be more than middle-class and known for chicken tactics!!! The club owe a good match to us fans! Better said, I want to see a good team with two strikers and not Torres waiting for that one ball who gives him a chance. Gerrard is more than questionable, as he left the pitch on Tuesday injured. Let's start this team: Reina - Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Insua - Mascherano - Gerrard, Riera - Torres, Kuyt in a 4-1-2-2 tactic.
Defeat
Well, yesterday after the the final whistle, the Beatles' song "Yesterday" came into my mind. Last year I watched my Reds at Chelsea in Augsburg at a Irish Pub with Burger and Augustiner. A win made this afternoon very special, a good rememberance. The defeat yesterday didn't blow that away, but it showed how Alonso must be missed in the starting eleven. Not only that he scored the winning goal last season, I think a pass-master is very needed. I can only hope for Aquilani's abilities.
Craig Bellamy
win at West Ham
Javier Mascherano took three points away from his elder home, thanks to Torres who scored twice. It seems the team is able to grab the win instead of let themselves down.
A win was all that mattered
That's what Rafa said after a non-convincing performance, but three points saved by Euro talisman Dirk Kuyt. At least the team can book three points for themselves. They are also counting in this tournament as every other win. We will have to wait if the team can show more quality vs Fiorentina and Lyon, I think. The way they played yesterdey will be not enough for them.
preparation
The Reds prepared themselves for their opener in this season's Champions League. The will take on Hungarian side Debreceni tonight at Anfield. Pretty nice training top btw...
new sponsorship
The club announced the new shirt sponsor today. The agreement, which starts in July 2010 and runs through to the end of the 2013-14 season, will see the bank's name and logo appear on the Liverpool shirt. This means the the long-time partnership between the Reds and Carlsberg will come to an end by this season and I have to get used to a new logo on my future training kit or shirts. Let's hope this deal will raise funds to strenghten the squad and this bank is financial strong.
Yossi
The Israeli claimed his first hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Bolton at home. Unfortunately, I didn't watch or listen, because I had no access to do so. The result speaks for itself I think, the team-sheet looked fine to me. This should be a start for a winning series and go for the big points in matches like vs. Chelsea or the Manchester clubs. The season has just begun but every three points are important, some matches are six points worth. Maybe the club can manage that!
away win
The Reds did it yesterday! After they were one goal behind for two times, the team managed to grab the three points. Once again, it was Steven Gerrard, who scored the winner. Torres and Johnson were also on the mark as they claimed their goals. Kyrgiakos made his debut for LFC.
At Bolton
The Reds are currently playing away at Bolton. It seems my prayers have been heard - at least to 50% as Babel is not in the starting eleven. Instead of him, Riera is taking over the left side. This is the team, which is in the hunt for three points:
Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Insua, Kuyt, Mascherano, Lucas, Riera, Gerrard, Torres
a win and a Greek
The Reds netted 4 goals vs. Stoke and let none in, very fine. On the mark were Torres, Johnson, Kuyt and Ngog. The club also confirmed that Kyrgiakos is on his way for a free deal.
first goal
The first goal was scored by Gerrard from the spot!
the first starting XI
Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Insua, Kuyt, Mascherano, Lucas, Babel, Gerrard, Torres... we'll see, the team is actually one behind.
The heat is on...
... for the Reds tomorrow as they will kick off the season at the White Hart Lane.
new signing
After Alonso's departure for Real Madrid, the Reds signed a new midfielder with Alberto Aquilani from AS Roma. Here's a picture from him watching the behind-closed-doors-friendly vs. Oldham (won 2-0).
bye Alvaro
Alvaro Arbeloa is heading to Real Madrid. I can't say that this is a transfer that I wanted. I never saw a bad display of him in a red shirt - whether at LFC or for Spain. I wish you all the best, Alvaro!
LFC news
Well, the Reds played their first pre-season friendly yesterday in St. Gallen. A goalless draw with Steven Gerrard from the beginning on the pitch and a lot of youngsters. Glen Johnson made his debut in a red shirt in the second half:
Another tattooed defense-men has ben added to the squad, so we now what they're talking about beside the pitch. There are no names on their backs as the squad numbers are not official by now, but it seems Dossena has lost the "2" to Johnson. Maybe he will make his way back to Italy. I think this will be better for him and the club.
The club also revealed their Euro away shirt for the upcoming season:
